Bitter
© Robert S. Neighoff 2016
Bitter… it's not the better side of me
Bitter…it's not the way I want to be
but I… can't forgive what you've done
Anger I watch him fight the devil inside
Anger it's a part of him he just can't hide
And I can't forgive what you've done
You sent my brother off to war to die
For the love of God and country is your cry
And thank you… for your service… is your lie
Justice…for him an obscure luxury
Justice no...just the death and the misery
And the damage…festers as...he’s growing old
You stole his soul his pure and simple joy
That battered man was once an innocent boy
But the dread and the damage followed him home
LEAD
Bitter is not the way it’s supposed to be
Freedom rolls off your tongue so easily
As you hide behind the bodies that you sacrificed
You never had the courage to fight…. yourself
But always the first to send out someone else
And I can’t forgive what you've done
Bitter… it's not the better side of me
Bitter…it's not the way I want to be
As I try to forgive what you've done
The price of freedom is your battle cry
Thank you for your service is your lie
And may God forgive what you have done
And may God, forgive what you have done
May God forgive what you have done
