The story behind “Egyptian Sand”

A scale commonly used in the Middle East brings a feeling of familiarity to anyone of that heritage. The scale is called “Harmonic Minor”.

At age 65 I was taking piano lessons and learned a left-hand-minor pattern often used in classical music. That pattern would work with any of the minor scales. I used it with the Harmonic Minor scale to create the melody you hear.

It was my first original piano solo composition. I released this piece as a piano solo, which is a heavy contrast to the more-massive productions I am accustomed to. It was first released on streaming platforms on my first piano solo album titled “The Master Number 11”.

The album was released in 2014 and is only available on the platforms that were available at the time of release. It can be found on most other major world-wide streaming platforms.

At the time of the album release, my skills with digital work station technology was still growing, as was the technology itself.
