Michael Spillane
Michael Spillane was born in Swansea, South Wales, and
is a true Renaissance person with a broad and eclectic
background both in the arts and natural sciences. Together
with his early interests in botany and the natural world,
Michael pursued his love of the arts. He studied botanical
art and classical drawing and painting techniques and, as
well as being a musician, he is an accomplished graphic
designer, book editor, art instructor and published author.
Michael has held positions of editor and art director for two
Canadian national magazines and has written over 300
articles worldwide.
He is also an internationally published poet with a collection
of his poems – Sex, Death & Cappuccino – available on Amazon platforms.
As a songwriter, composer and musician, Michael studied classical guitar and music theory in Britain and Toronto and has recorded and performed widely, both in classical and popular genres of music.
Today Michael teaches a variety of art courses at his studio in Mississauga – Spillane Studio of Fine Arts – and he regularly instructs workshops throughout southern Ontario. His artistic style
for the most part is based in realism, in particular, detailed and accurately rendered drawings and paintings.
His new book on botanical art – Botanical Drawing & Painting: A step-by-step tutorial in Graphite, Coloured Pencils and Watercolour – is available on all Amazon platforms.
Michael is active on social media and writes a blog promoting and documenting his art projects and workshops: Michael can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
